A strong earthquake hit Japan

A strong earthquake hit Okinawa at 5:31 AM local time on Saturday. Japan’s Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for Okinawa Island and an advisory for neighboring islands. But the warning and the advisory were both lifted at 7:00 AM local time. The agency says that tsunami of up to 10 centimeters were observed in some coastal areas of Okinawa Island. The earthquake had an intensity of 5 on the Japanese scale from 0 to 7 in Itoman, Okinawa, and an intensity of 4 in several other cities on the island. The Meteorological Agency says the focus was near the main island of Okinawa at a depth of 10 kilometers with a magnitude of 6.9.

Oh would you people talking about 2012 doomsday predictions shut up. You’re acting as if earthquakes have never happened before, Japan gets earthquakes all the time maybe not as strong as this one but it’s not a new thing, same with Chile. The timelines may be close but this doesn’t mean the world will end. -.-’

It was pretty scary to wake up that morning. Now Still waiting for the news about the 3 pm tsunami. This is my 2nd time. It’s crazy to see ppl still playing basketball and walking on the beach and shit.! This is just like the morning after xmas when 2004 tsunami hit in Thailand. The area that water dried up even further than the one in 2004. Hope this not going to be as bad

I awoke in my bed yesterday thinking my alarm was going off. It wasn’t. When my eyes opened they focused on my ceiling fan (which was turned on). I saw it shaking semi-violently. It was at that point that I almost peed my bed.

Typically get under a table or to a doorway, since they’re the more stable parts of a structure. Outside would probably be the best bet, but it’s a risk if it takes awhile to get outside.

i was getting worried with all the recent earthquakes. whats happening to the world? well i checked and this has happened before-so many in one year. god is not punishing us yet people. our weather is normal.

is that the 7.0 magnitude like the Haiti eathquake? It seems like there’s just a slight impact on the building @_@
Same magnitude as Haiti….it’s just that Okinawan structures are built better suited to withstand earthquakes. I don’t know why Haiti’s structures including their government buildings were so poorly built.
